A whiff of something

Every now and then I get a whiff of something and immediately it triggers off a whole chain of memories and associations. There is the perfume that reminds me of my mother or the smoke of an outside grill that immediately transports me back to lazy vacation summer afternoons. Not all smells are pleasant or call up good memories. There is the smell of a certain toothpaste that I somehow connect with dental chairs, and then the smell of an Asian fruit that a lot of people love but, I've never been able to stomach it as the smell takes me right back to the time that something died in my garage. What I find peculiar is that people seem to interpret odors differently. What is perfume to one person stinks to another. Paul reminds us that "through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of God" (2 Cor. 2:15). I hope that I can leave lingering traces of the pleasant sunny fragrance of Christ as I interact with my world today.
