Survive and thrive

Yesterday we visited the ruins of an archaeological dig - an ancient Roman city in Portugal. I wondered how the ancient settlers could have survived and thrived in this hot, dry, stony area. It didn't take long to discover their secret. Leading from all the old ruins there are funnels for pipes. The great mansions with their beautiful mosaic floors and the small family run shops all needed to be connected to the life giving water that came from the great aqueduct which brought in the water from miles away. We can settle, survive and thrive anywhere as long as we are connected to the Water of Life. "Whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life." (John 4:14 NIV)
